Banksy London graffiti tour

“Banksy” is the pseudonym used by one of the most famous street artists in the world. His real identity is not known, but a few details of his “civilian” life are known. He was born in Bristol in 1974. His father was a photocopier technician, and Banksy himself originally trained as a butcher before getting involved with street art.

Banksy has produced a wide range of art pieces including a film, Exit Through the Gift Shop, and even an opening for an episode of The Simpsons. However, he remains best known for his street art. He has produced some of the best-known and most loved pieces of street art in London. Banksy makes frequent use of stencils, but has also produced freehand artwork. His work in key areas of the capital, such as his fascinating Shoreditch street art, is an essential stop on many of the most popular art and cultural London tours, particularly specialist street art London tours.

Banksy’s art is not usually commercially available. He normally does not sell either reproductions or photographs of his street art, though he has self-published some books containing photos. Certain pieces of graffiti produced by Banksy have been removed from their original public setting and sold by art auctioneers for large amounts of money. However, this has evoked controversy about the process of removing the art from its original setting and, in some cases, whether this was done legally.

Bansky’s art has sprung up in a number of locations around the world, from his native Bristol to Brooklyn, USA and the Israeli West Bank. However, many of his greatest artworks have been centred around London. As he is one of the most famous and talented street artists in existence, his work is a vital component of many specialist street art London tours as well as some more general tours of the capital. A number of particularly interesting pieces can often be seen as part of the thriving Shoreditch street art scene.

Banksy has taken part in a number of notable exhibitions, including Art Below alongside other street artists. He has also held a number of exhibitions in the USA in places such as New York City and Los Angeles. Much of his exhibited work is different in execution, though not in style, from his regular street art. This includes painting animals (with approval from the RSPCA for conditions surrounding the activity) or producing oil paintings which subvert famous works.

Banksy is particularly known for employing dark humour and using his art to comment on current events. Both of these aspects will become clear to those who view his artworks on a street art London tour. Social issues that his art has dealt with include public surveillance, the use of child labour to manufacture cheap goods and prison conditions.

Street art London tour with London graffiti tours

Street art London tours with Steam156

London, especially the East Side, has some real street art gems, waiting to be discovered. Perhaps the hottest spot for graffiti in the UK right now, London is a smoky city with lots to show and tell about its people and how they perceive the world around them. If you know where to look, you can be amazed by the beautifully-made street art that inspires. From wall art deco, to the most phlegmatic works of art that dare to challenge your thoughts, you are called for thoughtful reactions upon dark events that are happening at some remote areas of the country. Everything depicted has something to say, beyond the obvious, and one thing is for sure: you will never get bored wandering around the lively streets of London.

However, trying to see it all, will probably seem like an endless quest. So, it takes a really knowledgeable guide to not just show you around, but let you step in the depths of the slightest details, leaving you with a sweet taste on the mouth when you get back home. Undoubtedly, your options are not limited, when it comes to London Graffiti and Street Art Tours. But, how much of an expert would your guide be, so to get you right into the heart of the fuzz, rather than just show you tags, instead of real art? Would your guide be offering you a one-of-a-kind experience and share a valuable album full of other works of the same artists you are about to see in action? What other guide is himself a street artist with extensive work on display, hence know all about street art from the very inside?

This is where we step in and make the difference…Stream 156, your guide with London Graffiti Tours, is a reputable street artist, who has dug into the core of street art and has travelled around the world to document and photograph it, in all its expressive forms. When in street art, the artist has a statement to make, either clarifying, illustrative, or more abstract. Who will best walk you through it, if not for a man driven by a passion for street art?  So, if you have a flair for graffiti, with London Graffiti Tours, you will get a unique opportunity to see real art of world famous Bansky, Obey, Roa, and Pure Evel, among a heap of other unknown artists from all over the globe, bombing the back streets!

We offer various Street Art London Tours from 3hr, 2hr and all day street art tours  -don’t worry, we keep our groups small, so you will get the most of everything!-  and the journey begins! You only need to wear your comfy walking shoes, take your camera, and be ready to get so much more than imagined! Almost forgot…put an umbrella inside your backpack. You never know when rain is on the daily schedule in London! Alternatively, you can also opt for a private tour. Just ask us how!

However, if you prefer something even more challenging, you can take the fascinating, non-rushed 3h Street Art London Tour, walk through the coolest graffiti-loaded avenues, and see the finest of works by Bansky, C215, Eine, Christian Nagel, Jimmy C, and Stik, to name just a few! With a stop at mind-blowing Pure Evil Gallery to catch up with the hottest and latest street art and graffiti (if you are lucky you’ll also get to see a love show!), your time will worth to the last minute. And, if you feel up to the challenge, dare to create your very own street art after the tour with the stuff you have bought from the Chrome and Black (yes, the coolest graffiti stores in London right now). What a better way to end a superb day!

Just book your Street Art London Tour and we are set to sail the waters of conceptual art. There is so much to explore…
